More than 1,000 seniors will board buses and participate in Beyond U - Union's annual College and Career Preparedness Conference for seniors – at OSU-Tulsa in downtown Tulsa on Friday, September 17. Beyond U will start at the High School and then movie beyond Union to the campus of OSU-Tulsa downtown (Oklahoma State University.) This one-day event provides seniors the opportunity to attend breakout sessions of their choosing on a variety of topics related to college, careers, and successful “adulting.” With more than 40 different sessions being offered, seniors will be able to choose four sessions that are relevant and interesting to them. Examples of session topics include: College Academics 101, Financial Aid, The College Social Scene, Cracking Your Career Code, Art in the Digital Age, Enlisting in the Military, Your Digital Footprint, Social Justice, Stress Management and Self-Care, various career interest sessions (medicine, skilled trades, cosmetology, engineering, social work, performing arts, etc.), and much more. This year’s presenters include professionals and topic experts from across the Tulsa community and beyond, including some Union Alumni like Josh Juarez of Josh’s Sno Shack, Rogelio Esparza, Kameron McQueen, I’mani Davis, Jessica Meza, and more. Board of Education member Dr. Chris McNeil will be the keynote speaker for Beyond U, speaking at the Union Performing Arts Center, before students board buses for downtown Tulsa. This will be third year for Beyond U but only the second time that the High School will take students to OSU-Tulsa, 700 N. Greenwood, after the pandemic forced Union to host a scaled-down version on campus last year. Seniors are required to attend. All Tulsa Technology Center students will be excused from Tulsa Tech classes on Friday, September 17. Lunch will be provided by McAlister’s Deli. The event is sponsored by the Union Schools Education Foundation.
