Athletic Training

Union
Union

The Union Athletic Training Facility is charged with the day-to-day health care of Union Public Schools’ 25 sports with more than 1,500 student athletes covering grades 6-12.  Student athletes receive professional care from Union’s three certified athletic trainers lead by Head Athletic Trainer Dan Newman, MS, LAT, ATC., along with Jacoby Newby, MS, LAT, ATC, and Mackenzie Harmon, MS, LAT, ATC.

The Union Athletic Training Facility is more than 1,700 square feet of space where Union student-athletes and staff can receive injury evaluation, treatment, and management of all athletic injuries.  All three of Union’s athletic trainers are trained in a multitude of modalities including dry needling, IASTM (Instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization), massage, and simple manipulations.  Union’s Athletic Training Facility is one of the only schools to have diagnostic ultrasound to assist in muskoskeletal and soft tissue injuries.

Union Athletic Training has a student aide staff of 10 students, and also is a partner with the University of Tulsa and Oklahoma State University Masters of Athletic Training Program where they host interns during their clinical rotations.

Union Athletic Training has also been a National Athletic Trainers’ Association Safe Sport School Award since 2014.  Union was the first school in Oklahoma to receive this award in 2014.

Union Athletic Training and Union Public Schools is proud to partner with Advanced Orthopedics of Oklahoma.  Dr. Jeff Cunningham and Dr. Scott Rahhal serve as Union’s Team Physicians.

The goal of Union Athletic Training is to provide first class and professional care to all of Union’s community.
