Jefferson Elementary – Lindsay Floyd, fourth grade
Fourth grade teacher Lindsay Floyd was named the 2022-2023 Teacher of the Year at Jefferson Elementary School.
“I believe that being an educator is a privilege,” Floyd said. “It’s not always an easy profession, but it is always an opportunity to change a kid’s life or make a lasting impact that can be the change our world needs. Knowing the power of a single hug, word, or action is what fuels my passion and motivates me to continue my work as a teacher, in this great state I have grown to love.”
Floyd said, “My favorite classroom activity is our shoutout time. Once a week, my students circle up and give one another shoutouts and encouragements. This has easily become our favorite weekly tradition. Seeing the kids go beyond the surface and make genuine connections with one another through compliments and affirmations has profoundly influenced our classroom bond.”
Floyd started teaching in 2019, and all of them have been at Jefferson Elementary.
Floyd attended Oral Roberts University and graduated with a bachelor’s in science degree for elementary education with a concentration of English Language Learning. “I am certified in elementary education as well as teaching English as a second language,” she said.
