Grove Elementary - Mezyuneh Scott, counselor
Counselor Mezyuneh Scott – or as her kids call her, Mrs. Meme – has been named Teacher of the Year at Grove Elementary School.
“I started off as a school-based therapist at Grove, working with an outside agency,” Scott said. “However, the longer I was there, the more I realized how amazing the Grove community was and I wanted to be a part of it. The school was full of administrators, teachers and parents that genuinely cared about the children’s success. I had the same vision and wanted to impact as many children as possible. When an opportunity opened to become the school counselor at Grove, I was beyond excited to apply.”
(“On a side note, ever since I was young, I said that I wanted to work at the same school that my children went to and now I get to do just that! My three oldest children attend Grove and I love seeing them in the building,” Scott said.)
Scott has been with Union since 2019.
How is teaching going for you this year?
“It is going great! For some reason it seems busier than usual! It is definitely keeping me on my toes!”
Scott graduated from Oral Roberts University in 2004 with a degree in international community development. “My emphases were psychology and sociology. I had a heart for urban America and low-income communities so it’s fitting that I work at a Title I school now. I received my master’s degree in Christian counseling from the same university. I am now a licensed marriage and family therapist turned school counselor.”
