Being a
Union Virtual Academy Student
At Union Virtual Academy, we understand that students have unique personal interest, talents or needs that may not be compatible with a traditional school setting. UVA embraces life beyond the classroom without sacrificing a quality education. Our program also allows for in-person support when necessary, so students always have a path to academic success.
Our program offers structure with flexibility that allows both self-pace and guided instruction with Union’s amazing teachers and staff. UVA courses are both engaging and rigorous, backed by a proven course design, meet all state standards, and designed to be age appropriate for maximum participation.
At UVA we know that students learn in different ways and at varying rates. Some students enjoy listening to lectures; others enjoy working in small groups. Students who are visual learners tend to do best in online courses. Online learning offers flexibility and individualized instruction. However, it may not be the right mode of learning for you.

Online learning is ideal for:
Program Design
Union Virtual Academy for secondary students (6-12) will consist of a full schedule of core and elective classes. Students in grades 6-10 will have the option to take one elective on campus. This could be an opportunity for those wanting to participate in fine arts or athletics. Students selecting an on-site elective will need to provide their own transportation.
Students in the 11th & 12th grades have two options:
Union Virtual for Elementary
Partnering With Edgenuity (Edgenuity.com), our program is a digital online platform with a supplemental paper workbook. Students are self-paced and a high level of parent involvement and guidance is required daily. Union Virtual for Elementary is not live instruction. There are not regular zoom meetings. With state testing requirements students may be required to attend in-person as necessary. Students have an Edgenuity teacher that they can message or schedule a video meeting with as needed. Student progress is monitored closely by our Elementary Virtual Coordinator who will communicate and assist parents with all aspects of the Elementary Virtual program.
Estimated time spent in each course daily:
Total: About 195-255 minutes daily
Applying for Union Virtual
Commitment
Both programs are considered a semester commitment. All students will need to abide by the Union attendance policy for virtual and maintain academic progress while enrolled in Union Virtual. Students failing to participate may be required to attend in-person. Students in Union Virtual Academy have access to all the same resources, clubs, and opportunities that would be available at their school site. All Virtual students may be required to attend in-person for assessments or other instruction as necessary.
Parent Involvement
Parent involvement is the pivotal key to any student’s success in virtual education. It is our expectation and requirement that parents are involved in the educational process and daily routines and lessons. We know that when parents provide close supervision and a culture of support students demonstrate improved academic results, higher test scores, consistent engagement and increased motivation. Union Virtual Academy has a specific role for parents. We call them the Learning Coach. A face-to-face coach responsible to support the student’s daily activities, schedules, and homework.
