Effective immediately, Union Public Schools has increased pay for school bus drivers by $2 per hour, with starting pay at $15 per hour for drivers with no experience and higher pay for experienced CDL drivers. In addition, the district will continue to offer a $2,000 signing bonus to full-time bus drivers as an incentive effort to recruit employees.
“The competition for bus drivers continues to be a challenge for the district,” said Jay Loegering, Executive Director of Human Resources. “To remain competitive and cut through the clutter, Union has increased its pay by $2 per hour for bus drivers. We also continue to offer a one-time $2,000 sign-on bonus for full-time bus drivers. While a CDL license is required, Union continues to offer paid training. We believe this positions Union more favorably in the marketplace for drivers and will make a difference in our recruitment efforts.”
The starting pay for bus drivers has increased to $15 per hour at Union Public Schools, with higher pay for experienced CDL drivers based on education and experience. In order to receive the bonus, bus drivers must agree to stay with Union Public Schools for one complete year. In the event they leave the position early, they will have to pay back the bonus.
