Duy Nguyen and Honor Plumlee have been named Seniors of the Month for October for Union High School, 6636 S. Mingo Road.
Nguyen is the son of Cuong Nguyen and Hanh Hoang, and Plumlee is the daughter Geoffrey and Amber Plumlee, all of Broken Arrow.
Nguyen is active in Asian American Club as president, Union Theater, Sustainable U, Key Club, Gay Straight Alliance and Academic Team. He has volunteered for the Tulsa City-County Library and the Oklahoma Blood Institute. He has received honors for National Honor Society, is a National Merit Semifinalist, second place winner in the ABLE Conference Division and won the President’s Award for Educational Excellence.
Nguyen hopes to attend Columbia University in New York “where I will double-major in neuroscience and psychology. Then, I’ll go on to med school to study to become an anesthesiologist.”
Plumlee is active in tennis, National Honor Society, MESH Club, Union Theater and the Union-Student Athlete Advisory Council. She has volunteered with St. John’s Junior Volunteer Program, LaFortune League of Exceptional Players, IRIS Global (sewing dressed for girls in Haiti) and for tennis functions. She has been recognized as a National Merit Semifinalist, top student her freshmen and eighth grade years, won a “Leadership” award in 2019, and place both first and third in Anatomage competitions, as well as in the top five for Poetry Out Loud in 2020. She is a representative on the Student Council.
Plumlee hopes to attend the University of Tulsa and then medical school with hopes of becoming a NASA flight surgeon.
