Beyond U Senior Conference Shows Students Possibilities

What do you about a roommate that is, um, rather very messy? Seniors learned some tips in The 3 C’s: Essentials for Adulting Success. Other seniors learned about veterinary services, college admissions, technology opportunities, the salon industry, how to use YouTube, and so on, and so on.

More than 1,100 seniors participated in the annual Beyond U Senior Conference – at Oklahoma State University-Tulsa today.

Seniors were provided the opportunity to attend four sessions of their choice out of 35 different sessions with topics ranging from College 101 to Stress Management to Destination Medical School at Oklahoma State University – Tulsa.

This one-day event provided seniors the opportunity to attend these breakout sessions of their choosing on a variety of topics related to college, careers, and, yes, successful “adulting.” Other examples of session topics include: College Academics 101, Financial Aid, The College Social Scene, Cracking Your Career Code, Art in the Digital Age, Enlisting in the Military, Your Digital Footprint, Social Justice, Stress Management and Self-Care, various career interest sessions (medicine, skilled trades, cosmetology, engineering, social work, performing arts, etc.), and much more.

Some of the most popular classes centered on real estate, first responders and college admissions

Several students interested in engineering enjoyed a tour of The Helmerich Research Center (HRC.” U. It ss a state-of-the-art research, development, testing and education center, created to fulfill the commitment made to the citizens of Tulsa for Vision 2025.

For many seniors, it was their first field trip in years and many enjoyed the opportunity to step foot on a college campus. College and Career advisors said they hope the things students learned today in the sessions will help prepare them for life after high school.

The idea behind the conference is to show the possibilities waiting for seniors after graduation as Union strives to meet its goal of 100 Percent Graduation, College and Career Ready.

Dr. Chris McNeil helped kick off the Beyond U Senior Conference as the keynote speaker at the High School before seniors boarded buses for their field trip. He talked about the importance of education and finding something in which seniors can feel engaged.
