Andersen students enjoy a Community Education class on ‘diamond art’ led by art teacher Kara Minton.
Using kits, students place diamond-shaped crystals into squares to create images from butterflies to unicorns to puppies. Minton completed two examples of work she completed outside on the hallway so students would get an understanding of what their finished pieces might look like.
The class is one of a few being offered after school through Community Education with an emphasis on safety in regards to the pandemic, explained Lorrie Field, coordinator for the program and the district’s Extended Day Program.
Minto teaches two other classes after school through Community Education: blanket-making and perler beads.
In addition, a few students are enjoying ballet lessons offered through Tippi Toes on Tuesdays at Darnaby Elementary and Wednesday at Moore Elementary.
The Union Community Education program is designed to provide opportunities for students, parents and patrons to become involved in our schools by participating in lifelong learning.
