The Top 10 for Mr. and Miss Union has been announced. The finalists will be selected from these students and will be announced later. If a category has more than 10, there was a tie.
Coronation will be March 13 at the Union Performing Arts Center, 6636 S. Mingo, beginning at about 9:20 a.m. Being named Mr. and Miss Union is the highest honor a student may receive at Union High School.
The award is based on a combination of academics, extra-curricular involvement and student vote.
In the selection process, all students are given the opportunity to nominate candidates from their own grade. The top-10 vote recipients are placed into the contest. These 40 students (10 girls and boys from each grade) will be placed on the ballot for a student vote. The 40 are also evaluated by their teachers based on school spirit demonstrated, positive leadership, character/integrity, contribution to class and scholarship. The final selection will be determined by 20 percent grade point average, 30 percent teacher recommendation score and 50 percent student vote.
