Union Public Schools now offers Online Registration - LOG ON HERE.  Online registration allows families who are new or who are returning to our district the opportunity to register their children from the comfort of their own home.  Please complete these forms online and bring your verification documents listed below to the Union Enrollment Center, 6011 S. 89 E. Ave., to finalize your registration. Completing these forms online will expedite your wait time at the Enrollment Center. If your child is currently a Union student you do not need to register.

Union Schools

Union SchoolsVisit our centralized enrollment office at the Union Enrollment Center at 61st and 89th E. Avenue. All students new to the Union Public School district and former students who have withdrawn from the district must complete enrollment. Students must be residents of the Union Public School District, living with a parent or legal guardian. Any student who has moved during the school year or summer must bring verification.

In the 201-2013 school year, Union grew by 309 students – mostly at the secondary level. With a 2.1 percent increase over the previous year, Union served 15,299 students – 7,426 at the elementary level and 7,426 in grades 6-12. In terms of racial origin, 5.6 percent were Native American, 14.7 percent were African American, 7.5 percent were multi-racial, 0.1 percent were Pacific Islander/Hawaiian, 7.0 percent were Asian, 65.1 percent were Caucasian; and 25.3 percent were of Hispanic ethnicity.

Union SchoolsApproximately 3,620 students were bilingual or lived in a home where a language other than English was spoken. Our diverse population speaks more than 51 different languages. More than 44 percent of our students reported that they lived with just one of their biological parents - 6,030 (38.8 percent) lived with their mothers and 764 (4.9 percent) with their fathers.

There were 943 students (grades PreK-7) enrolled in Union’s Extended Day Program - 365 attended the morning program, and 872 attended the afternoon program.

The EDP Summer Camp was held at Jefferson Elementary offering weekly themes over a nine-week period. Weekly camp attendance averaged 150. More than 13,000 Union students were involved in some form of the arts, including 6,839 elementary students who took both art and music classes. At the secondary level (grades 6-12), 1,005 were in band; 607 in orchestra; 1,302 in vocal music; 1,222 in drama; 99 in competitive speech/debate; and 1,701 in a wide variety of visual arts disciplines.

More than 2,400 students in grades K-12 participated in Union’s 167 noncompetitive sports programs. Approximately 1,725 were involved in its 23 competitive sports teams and spirit squads. Union’s athletic program continues to build “Champions of Character.” District athletic participation in grades 7-12 totaled 1725, 738 girls and 987 boys.

Items to Bring to Enrollment

Proof of residence is required. Acceptable proof includes two of the following, one must be from the primary category and all the proof must be in the parents' or legal guardians' name.

  • 1. The primary proof must be one of the following: Current (within 30 days) gas, water, or electric bill, signed lease agreement or house contract that is current.  Documents must be in the parents' or legal guardians' name.
  • 2. A second proof of residence may be any of the following: Bank or credit card statement, cable bill, cellular or home phone bill, DHS letters, pay stub or another utility bill - in the parents' or legal guardians' name.  The district will not accept driver's licenses, checks, or pieces of mail as proof of residence.

Immunizations records are required. All series must be complete.

* Unless the 4th DPT/DTaP & 3rd Polio were given on or after the fourth birthday.
** Previously unimmunized students ages 11-15 may receive a 2-dose series of Merck Adult Hepatitis B vaccine; all other children (younger or older) must receive 3 doses of Hepatitis B vaccine.

A certified birth certificate is required for students enrolling in Early Childhood (3 years), pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and first grade. Hospital certificates cannot be accepted.  Students must be 3, 4, 5, or 6 years old on or before September 1.  

Student Social Security Number - Requested but not required.

Other Information - Tribal Citizenship card or a CDIB Card (Certified Degree of Indian Blood,) transcripts for secondary students, Special Education (IEP); court appointed guardianship, DHS/Foster placement papers, joint custody agreement, if applicable; address of the previous school, and telephone numbers for students’ doctors and emergency contacts.

High School parking permits and activity cards

Union SchoolsHigh school parking permits are $25, and students must provide their car license tag number and driver's license number to purchase a permit. Activity cards are $25, which includes admission to Union home athletic events and fine arts performances. Intermediate High School parking permits are $25 and activity cards are $25. Activity cards are for athletic home events – not playoff games or state games, and fine arts concerts  but not all school musicals or drama performances.

Meet the Teacher

The annual Meet the Teacher conferences for elementary students and parents will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, August 18. During this time, parents have the opportunity to visit their children's elementary school and meet their teachers, sign up for PTA, buy a school shirt and learn about what is in store for the coming year.

Student Planners - 6th, 7th and 8th Grades

All sixth, seventh and eighth grade students are asked to purchase the Student Planner, which includes the student/parent handbook. The planners are $5.00.

Alternative Schedule Pick-Up Notes

The 1st Day of School on August 20 will be a full day.  Before school starts, each of you will need to pick up your 1st Block schedule, complete a graduation check and take ID photos on your assigned day listed below.  In addition, you will need to bring money or a check (made payable to Union Public Schools-Alt Ed) to purchase a parking permit if you will be driving to school.  This parking permit is $10.  In addition, you will receive a packet of information and various forms that need to be filled out and returned on your first day of school. All schedule pick-up times are from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on your assigned day.  You will see the counselor on a first come first service basis. 

  • 9th & 10th Graders – Monday, August 11
  • 11th Graders -  Tuesday, August 12
  • 12th Graders - Wednesday, August 13
  • Make Up Date is Thursday, August 14  (same times)

It is important that you attend on your assigned day.  In addition, any student who has decided not to return to the Alternative School should call with that information as soon as possible.  If a student doesn’t pick up a schedule and fails to make arrangements by 11:00 a.m. on August 14th, we will assume that he/she is not returning to the program, and we will give that spot to someone on the waiting list.
